ABOUT COBHAM

Cobham is a small affluent village in Surrey and is only 17 miles from London. Cobham has a population of just under 10,000 and sits on the river Mole.

The river Mole is host to one of Cobhams best known landmarks, the Cobham mill. The Mill was constructed in the late 18th century, and sits on one of the earlier mills that dates back to the middle ages. Today is it used only as a storehouse due to it becoming uneconomical to keep.

Cobham was once home to the Aviation and Motor Industries with companies such as Railton road cars and Airspeed Ltd this is in part due to Cobham being close to Brooklands.

One famous Cobham resident is Mike Chambers, who built Huron Formula Fords and Formula Atlantic cars at Silvermere works. Other known people born in Cobham include World War 1 flying ace Harold b Hudson,  race car driver Kenneth McAlpine and American actor and star of the Dark Knight Aaron Eckhart, and founder of Hawker aircraft, Hawker Siddeley Sir Thomas Sopwith.

The Borough of Elmbridge in which Cobham is situated, is claimed to be one of the best places in live in the United Kingdom, and is often referenced, as being as the United Kingdom’s equivalent to Beverley Hills.
